ARAN
—a modest proposal—

Amateur Radio Airsoft Network

Having as of June 2017 succeeded in putting an amateur radio network together for CONTACT, I would like to try and pull together and/or promote the idea of an international Amateur Radio Airsoft Network (ARAN). I am damn sure that others are already using amateur radio in the field, and it would be good to exchange ideas, and communicate about our two shared hobbies, talking on air and shooting one another, or should I say for my own part, being shot by everybody else. I am not proposing an actual organisation, with membership fees etc., but a simple worldwide network of people united by the simple act of participating in airsoft, while at the same time being a licenced radio amateur. Indeed those are the only criteria for "membership" of ARAN.
Above left is my proposed subdued "BB" patch, based on the International Amateur Radio Symbol, in green and brown, with a mirror imaged letter "B" either side of the antenna symbol. The colours used in these versions were selected for wear on the MultiCam™ kit worn by players of CONTACT, but should work very well on virtually any other camouflage pattern. For use on non-combat kit, you will see above right the "bright" edition; black and yellow being the colours used on the International Amateur Radio symbol, which seemed the appropriate choice for ARAN. The proportions are the same as most radio patches 2:1, and so my first batch of patches are going to be 3"x1.5" (76x38mm) overall. Click either image to enlarge it.
Wearing the patch identifies you as a fellow airsofter and radio ham. The objective is just to get people talking and playing together and enjoying themselves and their twin hobbies. Support the cause wear the ARAN patch. I am taking names for the first run of these patches, intended for our own use, but if as a non School member, you would like one for yourself, get in touch and you can buy one from me at cost. Although I have copyrighted the symbol, this is just to keep the Network's design uniform, as I have no desire to make any money from the idea. Anyone who is willing and able to is free to reproduce it, sell it, or offer it in alternative colour schemes for example: Black on Olive Green, Brown on Desert Tan, White on Red, White on Blue, White on Black, Red on Pink, or whatever you can think of! If you do produce abatch of patches, please let me know, send an image and a link and I'll post them here, and we'll probably buy some.
