Expert Infantry Course #13

March 28-30 2008

There were three new Marines present on this course, but due to the high level of experience of the remainder, the program was aimed principally at an intermediate level. The total number of possible Expert Infantry Course Units (EICU) was 19, and a single Battle Practise Unit was also available as follows:

Friday: An intensive indoor set of units covering basic military planning and preparation techniques. As no time was available for the topic of Radio Procedures, space will be made during this years combat operations. A complex session for which two bonus units were awarded: 4 EICU.
Saturday (Part 1): An outdoor unit covering the basics of unit movement, formations and target indication: 3 EICU.
Saturday (Part 2): An outdoor unit preceded by a single unit of Battle Practise. Training in trench assaults: 1 BPU, 3 EICU.
Saturday (Part 3): An outdoor refresher unit on assault by fire and manoeuvre and flank attack upon a strong point at night. Plus the use of the Stack in room entry situations. An excellent session for which a bonus unit was awarded: 4 EICU.
Sunday: Open grassland assaults, in a head to head situation, team v's squad. Focusing on the use of directed fire control. An excellent session for which a bonus unit was awarded: 5 EICU.

All EIC units with the exception of the night fighting unit on Saturday were conducted by Dean Wayland. The night training was conducted by Mark Stanhope, with the assistance of Stephen Clarke, and the Battle Practise session was managed by Ashley R. Pollard.
