OPERATION BADEN HILL

May 20-22 2005

Issued @ 11:00hrs on 20/05/2005

Contrary to recent Gate behavior CON39-CON-52, the latter being "Operation Bannockburn" conducted on March 4-6 2005, we have detected a similar number of Gate activations for this operation, compared to that of the previous, a total of 1,109, as opposed to the 1,046 of CON-52. This is by far the largest number of signals detected in any of the preceding normal 48 hour cycles. This is inconsistent with the wave pattern previously seen, where in the number of activations from one cycle to another have oscillated between a moderately low figure and a steadily increasing one, but with a very large differential. This maybe an aberration or be indicative of an additional change in Gate behavior.

These activations cover the period 19/05/05 (12:17)-23/05/05 (08:15). Only 25 of these Gates are actually viable. All of which are to known destinations with the exception of two, which have been designated as Pathfinder missions.

As with recent operational cycles, extremely rough and unpredictable flight experiences for crews are expected, due to the very strong natures of the signal spikes. Caution is especially recommended in respect to those Gates connected to UP818A, which are displaying a never before seen trait, that is the Flight Times are not consistent. What this will mean for any crew attempting a jump is unknown. As before great caution and firm flight discipline is essential to prevent injuries, damage or loss of personnel and or equipment during this operation.

Gatewatch 50, 52 and 54 are in the present operational cycle, all reporting a similar level of activity, with very few useful, yet incredibly strong well resolved signal spikes. There is still no data from Stargate-53 for comparison at this time.

Other Points

It remains unknown how many REGION-55 (SG-55/PRC) survivors are actually currently stranded off world, with the exception of those listed as MIA (see the last Issue No.50 of the MIA listings). Extreme caution is recommended when dealing with such personnel, due to inevitable long duration exposure to ABC (09/09/04). No further data is expected from the PRC's UNSGC elements at this time.

The PRC's negotiations with Japan and Russia re its future contribution to the CONTACT program broke down earlier this month, but have since recommenced with the assistance of representatives from the USA. We will keep you apprised as the situation develops.

**The signal spike for these two Gates "jumped" at the very last moment from XC001A to UP888A. There was no opportunity to warn the crew prior to them making their jump. Despite the deployment of the "experimental" wormhole communications system, the crew remained unaware of the situation until their return. Due to the crews lack of fore knowledge, this mission will NOT constitute a Pathfinder Mission, as concequencially they had no opportunity to "volunteer for hazardous duty". Worsfold and Rushen went missing during the return flight but were recovered from UP818A during Mission 5/6.

Mission 1

Intelligence Summary: See Con 60 Mission 9 For latest Intelligence summary.

After Action Reports:

Pvt Rivington / Schmidt

Participants

Pvt Rivington, Crazy Ivan, Burns, Stone, Schmidt, Briggs.

Destination: XC001A Outbound 00:36 Inbound 01:06 21st May 2005

Information Source

This report was recovered from the personal effects of Pvt Rivington, and seem to contain his report plus that of Schmidt. From the very tiny writing, and single piece of A4, this was a field debrief while they were temporarily lost off world in Rivington’s indifferent handwriting.

Detail Report, Rivington

The gate transit was the roughest on record with lots of throwing up. Three team members were delayed by a couple of minutes. It felt like a washing machine on spin cycle. The delayed ones were even more shook up. The world was of dust and rock with a smell of salt and a swishing sound. We had arrived on a small island surrounded by sea. The moon was out and the sun was rising – the tide was probably coming in.

We formed a defensive perimeter & I was detailed to obtain samples. I took rock, water, & then noticed a green slime in the sea all over the underwater rocks – so took one of that as well (see DSTL report). The sea was very shallow at this point.

The gate activated, and then 3 figures walked out. They were moving straight towards the beach, and appeared to ignore us. The order to hold fire was given, and obeyed. The figures, 1 in the lead, walked into the sea. They were carrying ammo cases & emptied them into the water, and let off three grenades. After a short while a gruff voice said mission successful & they left back towards the gate. The last figure staggered a lot, and randomly fired it’s pistol. After a short while a gruff voice said stop, you are wasting ammunition. They gated out. I suggested that a second sample of water be taken, and dumped the rock one. I took the sample (see DSTL report), and noticed a fluorescent sparkling out of the corner of my eye in the water. We exit the gate and then all hell broke loose. It felt an ejector seat and we ended up on the grass on a world, but where?

Detail Report Schmidt

Arrived on world, was violently sick, like in a washing machine spin cycle. Planet was dust, rock and the sun was rising on the horizon. Strong smell of salt in the air, and a whooshing noise from the surf on the beach. The stargate appeared to be on an island. A patrol was sent out along the beach, and found some wooden structures and fence remains.

The gate then activated and three figures came through. Stone et al rushed back to take up a defensive position about 20m from the gate. The 3 tangos walked between two squads into the water & one had a box of some type. They proceeded to throw 3 grenades into the water. They fished around in the water, and then picked up the box. I could hear low voices and mumbling from their direction. On e left the water and walked 15m between 2 of the squads and stopped. At this point the sun was in my eyes and I lost track of their position. Last one left staggered around and was in a bad way, stopping and starting. He stopped, turned, drew a pistol and fired several rounds in the direction of the water according to coms, with no definite target. He staggered off to the stargate, fired again towards water. Not long after that the gate activated, and they left.

When we were leaving I was 3rd last, with Briggs and Rivington behind me. Next thing I knew I was thrown back by a great force, and ended up flat on my back in a grass field at night with Rivington next to me. We were feeling a little exposed.

Day 2

We continued with standard evasion & whatever drill. We heard a gate activate, followed by the sound of combat. From our position I managed to see some figures up the hill towards the gate. I thought I recognised Briggs particular figure and headwear. We lost track of them, and there was a second firefight. There were some more figures, and I approached them, calling out UNSGC Rivington. We did the standard drill when a team meets a stranger, and Briggs commented that I was a sight for sore eyes, and where were the samples from last night. Fortunately, I still had them (see DSTL report).

A semidetached snippet?

There was some talking with some type Is, psylooms were exchanged, & talk about type IIIs. They moved off, and Burns said I don’t trust them. Rhys said fire when I fire, and then opened fire. The others supported. So much for détente in the current type I vs type IIIs. Briggs

Sample Results (see DSTL report)

The sample of the green slime was similar to blue green algae – a bacterial bloom that sat on the rocks. The before water sample was pretty much lifeless, apart from some small low level life and type I nanites. The after sample showed the presence of type II nanites, disassembly products of type Is, and a reduced number of type I nanites.
