Intelligence Summary: This Mission was done between CON-048 and 049. A mayday call had been recieved from a Canadian Submarine off the coast of Ireland, reporting a fire. Upon investigation in port nothing was found in the Submarine's hold but there was evidence of some repairs. Hold is reported to be big enough to hold a small stargate (17-38 tons) but no evidence was found to support the theory.
After Action Reports:
Location: Scottish port of Faslane
Intel: British Coast Guard received a mayday call on 5/07/2004 from the HMCS Chicoutimi, a diesel-powered submarine, saying therewas a fire on board. The fire has knocked out power from the diesel engines and the sub is drifting without power Nine people have been injured, but not seriously. Three ships are on the way to the submarine, which is about 160 kilometers (100 miles) northwest of Ireland, to pick up the 48-member crew.
Briefing: After some debate it was decided to send a small detatchment to investigate the sub as to whether there was any areas of concern for the UNSGC. The Brigadier checked with General A. West in NY who gave us the go ahead to investigate.
Mission Leader: Pvt Ridgeway
Others attending: Pvt O`Malley
Report: Our arrival at the base was delayed while confirmation of our authorisation was processed. We were then met by the base commander who advised us that there was nothing untoward happening regarding the sub but that we could view it if we desired. We briefly examined the exterior of the hull, which appeared to have some recent welding around the midsection. some of the lines appeared over 20ft in length. The interior of the sub looked fairly standard, It appeared the fire had occured in the midsection on the lower decks in the same section as the recent welding. At the time of our investigation the area had be totally gutted leaving only essential pipes and a few access panels.
Conclusion: It is possible that a section of the sub has been removed before our arrival or that this is merely the work of the restoration crew. There was certainly the space to store a stargate. Had the gate been attatched to the sub at the ocean floor then brought up to periscope depth it could theoreticly have been loaded on to the sub into the midsection, had it been fitted with a large cargo airlock. It did appear that any work being done on the sub wasn`t completed and the fire was just enough to write -off the sub whilst leaving it salvageable.
Suggestions: We need to monitor the future of this sub. It is possible that a major corp could now purchase it to attempt a stargate retreival. The cause of the fire is still not known.
